Necessity is the mother of invention. Education here, at Bela was the immediate need in the beginning of the 2nd millennium. Bela, then was a small village with inadequate basic developmental facilities. But the people around here, were very much lovable and living in harmony, who also gave priority to Education and future of their children. 

To the knowledge seekers, who completed primary education, to such learning buds it was in 2005, St Mary’s High school was started by Rev. Fr Basil Vas. Later it was upgraded to higher secondary school in 2008. Foreseeing the needs of youth and their future and to support the economically backward students, Rev. Fr Vincent D’Souza, the then correspondent shaped his vision by giving birth to St Mary’s College.  This adventure began in the year 2011. The College started to function with the name St Mary’s Educational Institution.  The College functioned under the Distance Education of Kannur University in the beginning, with B.Com & B.B.A courses. St Mary’s College is recognized by the govt. of Kerala & Affiliated to Kannur University in the year 2014. At present its offering Full time courses B.Com- Co-Operation, B.Com- Computer Application, BBA, BCA, M.Com in Finance specialization.
