An impactful Anti-drug awareness program titled UNCHAIN -Say No To Drug was
organized by NSS Unit of St. Mary’s College, Bela, on the 14th of August, 2024. The event was part of the college’s ongoing efforts to educate students about the dangers of drug use and to promote a drug-free lifestyle among the youth.
The program began with the NSS prayer song, creating a serene and solemn atmosphere that set the tone for the rest of the event. The prayer was a reminder of the importance of unity and collective effort in the fight against drug abuse.The stage was graved by principal of the college Rev. Dr. Rocky Ravi Fernandes. The Chief guest as well as resource person of the program Mr. Jayarajan P.K Deputy Excise Commissioner,vice principal Mr. Vincent Dsouza, NSS program officer Mrs. Juliana and NSS student leader Mr. Maneesh.Rev. Dr. Rocky Ravi Fernandes, the Principal of St. Mary’s College, addressed the gathering.He spoke about the importance of maintaining a drug-free environment in educational institutions and the pivotal role that education plays in shaping a healthy and responsible society. He encouraged students to be vigilant and proactive in their efforts to prevent drug abuse, not just within the college but also in their communities.
The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Jayarajan, the Deputy Excise Commissioner, who is renowned for his work in combating drug abuse and spreading awareness about the dangers associated with it. Mr. Jayarajan delivered an inspiring and informative keynote address. He emphasized the critical role of young people in the fight against drug abuse and highlighted the various initiatives taken by the government to curb this menace. His speech was both awake-up call and a motivation for students to stay away from drugs and to actively participate in spreading awareness.In a powerful moment of unity, all attendees took a collective oath against drug abuse. The pledge was a solemn commitment by students, faculty, and guests to lead a life free from the influence of drugs and to actively work towards a drug-free society.
